Pureprint Group awarded two-year contract for English Heritage print work

Pureprint Group awarded two-year contract for English Heritage print work

• Two-phase rigorous tender process
• The awarded work for English Heritage will include books and general printing
• Two-year contract with a possibility to extend for a further two years
• Environmental and colour management skills were key selection criteria

Pureprint Group has announced that it is one of five sheetfed printers that were awarded print work by English Heritage following a scrupulous tender process. Pureprint was one of nearly 200 litho printers that initially applied for the work. Following the OJEU (Official Journal of the European Union) 2-phase process which involved a rigorous scoring, English Heritage received 22 completed tender documents before finally awarding the work.

The work awarded to Pureprint includes Books and General Printing and the initial contract is of a two-year duration with the option to extend for a further two years.

Books include projects like the prestigious English Heritage Historical Review which Pureprint have recently printed. This high profile publication was launched in 2006 and is a rich source of historical research and interpretation. The journal focuses on discoveries from English Heritage properties, including landscapes, structures and their contents. Pureprint not only printed the book, they also performed some scanning and retouching.

As part of the general printing requirements of English Heritage, Pureprint will be included in the printing of Guide Books for English Heritage sites as well as the Conservation Bulletin quarterly magazine, a free full-colour illustrated periodical on conservation issues.

Colour and repro skills, environmental footprint and overall cost-effectiveness were key selection criteria in the tender process. Elaine Pooke, Production Manager at the Publishing Department of English Heritage said: “We looked at the quality and environmental accreditations of applicant companies, their expertise in colour management and the print quality samples as well as their financial stability and overall company background. We are very happy with the quality of work we are getting from Pureprint and most importantly with the working relationship we are starting to have with them.”

English Heritage is best known for the historic sites (over 400) in their care which are open to the public. Less well known is their role in looking after the historic environment as a whole, including historic buildings, monuments and areas, and archaeological remains. They aim not only to ensure the preservation of the country’s historic surroundings for the future, but also to encourage people to appreciate and enjoy this heritage today.
