Pure Digital

Digital printing has revolutionised the way in which physical material can be accessed and utilised to communicate. In its simplest form, digital printing is a low-cost, lower environmentally impacting alternative to lithographic printing when only small volumes are required. However in reality it’s so much more than that, the fact that every impression on a digital press is different opens up a whole new world of opportunity.

At Pureprint, driven by our desire to offer our customers every advantage possible through physical communication media, we have invested in the leading digital printing technology available and were the first UK company to purchase two of the HP Indigo 7500 presses after they went on sale at IPEX in May 2010.

The opportunities through web to print are boundless, from producing personalised prospectuses, brochures, calendars, photobooks, pitch documents and leave-behind materials through to just-in-time print solutions, cutting out obsolescence and storage costs whilst ensuring sales materials are always current, relevant, targeted and achieving the maximum return on investment.

We feel it's best to demonstrate our capabilities through examples:

  • VDP - GF Smith

    • Variable Data Publishing
    • Over 10,000 bespoke images
    • Showcasing our unique White Ink capability
    • A perceived instant value

GF Smith wanted us to create a visually stunning and fully personalised print swatch book showcasing the unique white ink capability of our HP Indigo 7500s as well as the very best of digital print on high-end substrates. We chose to implement VDP (Variable Data Publishing) and we believe it has never been demonstrated in a more inspiring way.

By utlising an algorithm that interpreted sound and light waves, we programmed and personalised over 10,000 bespoke images which were then pulled into the base artwork and channelled to the presses to be digitally printed, allowing us to create a unique and individual sleeve for every swatch. The static insert pages were converted through Pureprint's DWM system and routed to the presses for printing in CYMK and HP's new White Ink for maximum impact.

The final unique piece created interest and a perceived instant value in the targeted creative community, with further awareness raised of the creative flexibility of our HP Indigo Presses and quality papers. GF Smith were exceedingly pleased with the end result, sending through an email which read, 'Just taken delivery of the new Digital promo... Awesome was my first reaction, followed by fantastic etc etc' -John Haslam, M.D.

  • Brand Control – Laing O’Rourke

    • Needed 200 copies of Brand Guidelines
    • Only had a litho process in mind
    • We halved the cost using digital
    • More flexibility and a matching quality

    Client: thinker/doer - Laing O’Rouke Brand Guidelines
When thinker/doer, the designers of the brand guidelines approached us to produce 200 copies, they only had the litho process in mind. ‘Colour and clarity is key’ they told us as we suggested that this could be done using our HP Indigos. We produced test prints which matched perfectly with previously produced litho print and the digital pricing proved to be half the cost.

    Key drivers:

Repro – all repro goes through the same department; litho and digital, is worked on by our highly skilled colour technicians, then processed through our Prinergy system with our embedded colour profiles.
Flexibility – the digital process enabled us to uniquely number each copy so Laing O’Rouke could record where each copy was going.
Quality – The Indigo's laying down of ink and its ability to use higher screen value, meant that it matched with the quality values of their litho publications, giving the colour clarity and consistency needed for a document communicating the importance of brand values.
Cost – the ability to produce low run print on demand with none of the set up costs associated with litho.

  • Web To Print - Oxfam

    • People donated as a gift
    • We developed a bespoke print system
    • Personalised cards sent to gift recipients
    • Indigo presses
    • Produced to highest quality

Oxfam came up with a unique idea to give philanthropists the ability to donate money to good causes as gifts to their friends and family on special occasions.

It was clear they would need to provide a card physically delivered to the recipient, making them aware the donation had been made and providing additional information about the good cause the donation had gone to.

The system we developed automatically generates a bespoke piece of print for every donation that gets made. The image on the front page varies depending on the gift and an explanation of the programme the money has gone to is then given on the inside of the card and there is also a page where the person making the donation can create a personal message to the recipient. The cards are then produced to the highest quality on our Indigo presses, before being creased, trimmed and folded to finished size and mailed to the recipient.

Web-to-print and digital technology have created a solution that simply wasn’t previously achievable.

  • POS - Retail outlets

    • Required a centrally controlled system
    • Content varied across regions
    • We enabled real-time updating
    • Still ensured next day arrival

We provide a point of sale solution across the EMEA region for a global technology company. The materials we produce carry specific pricing information relating to each product. As pricing and products can vary frequently, our client required a centrally controlled system enabling them to update information real time via an online solution, with content varying for all of the different regions, and then have the materials printed and distributed across the region.

We receive print ready files at 3pm every day and make sure those materials are produced and in stores for the following day, speed to market that was unthinkable just a few years ago. The products are produced on a range of materials, from magnetic backed to self-adhesive to regular matt coated materials.

Print volumes range from just a few copies up to a few hundred, demonstrating how much digital printing has revolutionised the industry, now enabling economic pricing even at these volumes.

  • Award Winning - Brand Union

    • Two wins at Digital Printer Awards 2010
    • Innovative design
    • High-quality and flexible printing
    • Only press to use wet ink print technology

An innovative design using a range of different materials and finishing techniques, printed to the highest quality on an HP Indigo 7500 scooped two awards at the Digital Printer Awards in November of 2010, including the top "Supreme Award" for the best product in show.

This item highlights the flexibility of the Indigo printing press, demonstrating what a wide range of substrates are available for this technology and highlighting the fact that a decision to produce work digitally doesn’t need to involve any compromise on quality.

The Indigo press is unique in the world of digital printing as it’s the only press to use wet ink print technology, creating authentic print results that are often indistinguishable from litho and in some instances even superior.
